Paws That Protect is a new 501(c)(3) charitable foundation dedicated to providing critical support for emergency service K9s across the United States. This exciting new foundation will offer financial assistance and outreach opportunities designed to honor and recognize these K9 heroes, in active service and retirement.
Emergency service canines give their all to protect us. Now, it’s our turn to protect them,” said Eric Edson, Executive Director of Paws That Protect. “Our mission is to ensure these K9 protectors receive the care and recognition they so deeply deserve - during and after their years of dedicated service.
Service K9s are integral to public safety, excelling in tasks such as search and rescue, criminal apprehension, and narcotic/explosive detection. Yet, these guardians often face significant challenges related to medical costs, retirement, and replacement. Paws That Protect aims to support these K9 teams by providing essential financial support to ensure these protectors are cared for throughout their lives.
When it launches in January of 2025, Paws That Protect will offer the following programs:
K9 Care Fund: financial support for medical expenses of active and retired K9s
K9 Replacement Fund: helping offset the costs of replacing a retiring K9
Behind the Badge, Beyond the Leash: sharing inspiring stories of K9 teams to raise public awareness and appreciation
Paws That Protect is actively seeking supporters, donors, and corporate partners to join us in our mission. Campaigns will be launching soon that will include opportunities for veterinarians, businesses, and individuals to sponsor programs and events.
